چکیده

In this study, throughput and delay performance of IEEE 802.11b and 802.11e is presented under non-saturation conditions. In order to improve the performance of IEEE 802.11b, the IEEE 802.11e has been proposed to improve the Quality of Services (QoS) for multimedia application. The standard 802.11b CSMA/CA contention mechanism does not support QoS but the standard 802.11e provides QoS by adjustment of MAC parameters. The comparison of 802.11b DCF and 802.11e EDCA mechanism by using Network Simulator (NS-2) with different parameters such as throughput, delay, CWmin and AIFS differentiation are simulated. The EDCA stations have more competitive advantages than 802.11b under all the above parameters. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm improves the performance of the EDCA stations.

Closed-form Solution of the Bianchi Model for 802.11 DCF and IEEE 802.11e EDCA

Based on some empirical observations, we present a fairly accurate assumption about the throughput performance under non-saturation conditions and when the system is near saturation. This allows us to find a closed form solution for the transmission probabilities and collision probabilities. These can be inserted into performance expressions derived from any available analytical model for 802.1...

Performance Analysis of IEEE 802.11e EDCA in Non-saturation Condition

We focus on performance analysis of IEEE 802.11e EDCA in non-saturation condition. There have not been many analytic works in non-saturation condition due to mainly analytic complexity of models. However, non-saturation is valid in most real WLAN network. In this paper, we deal with the non-saturation case that the flow is not generated during which the previous flow is in service and flow size...

QoS protection for IEEE 802.11E in WLAN with shared EDCA and DCF access

The next deployments of IEEE 802.11 WLAN will involve the coexistence of the legacy best effort stations and the new recently standardised QoS-aware stations in QoS Basic Service Set (QBSS). However, if no control is applied to the legacy stations, this coexistence may deteriorate QoS support provided by the new IEEE 802.11e standard. In this paper the influence of IEEE 802.11b DCF stations on ...

Computation of the Performance Analysis of IEEE 802.11 DCF in Non-Saturation Condition

The MAC performance of IEEE 802.11 DCF and the IEEE 802.11e EDCA is analyzed in nonsaturated condition which means sometimes the device does not have a packet for transmission. In this paper we assume that there is no generation of flow while the previous flow is in service and the number of packets in flow is geometrically distributed. In the non-saturated condition, the first packet arriving ...

Evaluation of Contention-Based EDCA for IEEE 802.11e Wireless LAN 429 Evaluation of Contention-Based EDCA for IEEE 802.11e Wireless LAN

802.11b The legacy IEEE 801.11 doesn’t support QoS streams with priorities. It since causes some QoS demanding applications such as VoIP, Video streaming to be limited in its usefulness. Enhancements have been made to the MAC layer by the new 802.11e standard to support prioritized and parameterized QoS. The work of this paper is to simulate the new scheme and modify the existing OPNET WLAN MAC...
